When you live in Central Europe, every traveler must complete the holy trinity of Prague, Vienna and Budapest. We were living in Prague and post a visit to Budapest it was now to complete the trinity. Not that we were visiting it for the first time and that applied to Budapest as well. It was rather re-visiting the holy trinity.
How we reached there?
Its a five-hour bus journey from Prague. We took the Student Agency Bus from Praha Florenc bus stop at 7:30 AM. We were there by 12:30 PM. The bus dropped us at Wien Pratterstern i.e. the main station.
What we saw?
Schonbrunn Palace is a huge attraction. The place is not at the center of the city. We took the train to metro station Schonbrunn from where its a fifteen minute walk. We took the guided tour of the palace with radio and headphones provided. The palace has a beautiful garden where we took a long walk once we were done with viewing the palace. One can spend good four to five hours in the palace and the gardens.
The other places to see are all in the city center. You get down at Stepanplatz where you get the beautiful St. Stephen’s cathedral. Its the town square from where you start walking and you reach the Imperial Palace. Then a little down the road you reach the beautiful Parliament and Rathaus. Karlplatz is a happening place as well. The entire area around Stephenplatz, Karlplatz, Volkstheater comprises of the city center and can be covered on foot. There are shops restaurants and many beautiful buildings.
Then there is the legendary, beautiful Blue Danube which offers a number of river cruises.
