Dessert Trails of London
When your Instagram photos are more of desserts than travel, you instantly know you are more of a foodie than a traveler. So I thought of contributing my food experience and reviews of London restaurants on this blog site.
Generally my husband is the one to decide on the sightseeing places while I am the one looking for the ice cream parlours, restaurants and best cupcake places. So I decided on one full day to visit London just to have a gastronomical experience .
My dessert trail started started with Covent Garden, a vibrant place with shops and eateries, an ideal place to spend the whole day. Tucked away in a corner is a quaint colourful cake shop Sweetheart Cupcakes serving an array of beautifully decorated cupcakes varying in flavours like lemon, blueberry and pistachio with unique presentations. Their window display is a visual treat to the eyes. Even if you don’t like eating, the look of the cupcakes can be quite mouth watering. I would recommend the blueberry lemon cupcakes.
After signing off from Covent Garden I decided to visit Crumbs and Doilies on Carnaby Street. Having never visited Carnaby Street I was pretty excited to see the colourful street of London. UK is quite grey and murky in winters so getting to see a bit of colour on the streets of London is pretty exciting. If you travel to London make it a point to visit Carnaby Street, as you will be in for a treat with its high-end shops and eateries. Finding Crumbs and Doilies was like searching a piece of puzzle on Carnaby Street. Located at Kinley Court in Soho, the tiny cake shop is always crowded and if you are lucky you can get a place to sit. Though its best to do a takeaway, I was lucky to find a place and treat myself to a Maple and Bacon Cupcake. The uniqueness of this bakery is that they have loads of creative items in the menu and you get to have different cupcakes everyday as they are rarely repeated. The nearest tube station to Carnaby street is Oxford Circus or Piccadilly Circus.
A two minute walk from Crumbs and Doilies, I stumbled upon Choccywoccydoodah, a must visit place for all chocolate lovers. Once you enter the place it would seem like going into your childhood days of Charlie and chocolate factory. Words cannot do justice as much as the photos.
Next Stop was the famous American Hummingbird Bakery, a ten minute walk from Carnaby Street, a must visit for its moist red velvet cake and the rainbow cake. Though it is more famous for the small red velvet cupcakes, the huge rainbow cakes are best for sharing. Reasonably priced from £2.50 for the cupcakes and £5.50 for the bigger cake it is a must try if you are in a mood for desserts. The other branches in London are located in Richmond, South Kensington, Notting Hill, Spitalfields
